Welcome to our elevated therapy experience; one that didn’t exist before. As of Summer 2021, we’re bringing our origin-focused therapy to Kelowna, and across BC, virtually. We provide proactive psychology, before things get out of hand (but if you’re already there, don’t worry, we can help with that too).

Our humble beginning started in Edmonton, Alberta. Using our carefully constructed psychology protocol, we’ve been able to help many Albertans faced with a wide variety of challenges, from stress and burnout to relationship problems, and we thought it was time to do the same in BC.

We truly believe that anyone can benefit from psychology; especially a carefully built and results-driven psychology program. You don’t need to have a clinical concern like depression, for example, to get something really positive out of counseling. Shift is for anyone who wants to live their ideal reality. Whether you’re trying to be a better parent, navigating a new injury or illness or experiencing a life transition like a new career in Kelowna or retirement, Shift is here for you.

Here's what structured therapy in Kelowna looks like...

Shift therapy is an experience. We’ve meticulously built a protocol that works. Here’s how it goes. We’ll get to know as much of you as humanly possible in 50 minutes. We’ll identify your global ‘limiting beliefs (the stuff that’s at the root of your concerns).

We then take a deep dive into your limiting beliefs and create an inventory. We’ll also determine your ‘dysfunctional needs’ that pop up in response to a specific limiting belief (e.g. striving for perfection). Together, we’ll determine which limiting belief to tackle to the ground first.

Then, we’ll use bilateral stimulation to reprocess traumatic events and memories that are linked to limiting beliefs. This removes any emotion associated with the memory, thus removing the limiting belief. It sounds crazy, but trust us, it works.

Eventually, you’re left with an absence of response. That’s the goal, to not be activated and bothered by the things you used to be. We repeat this process for as many limiting beliefs as you’d like. The time spent in therapy is different for everyone.

Also, therapy is kind of like going to the gym. You get out what you put in.

Tips to practice self care in Kelowna

Kelowna is a beautiful city with no shortage of ways to keep yourself active both physically and mentally. We all know that taking care of our minds is just as important as taking care of our bodies. You wouldn’t put your body through an ridiculously challenging obstacle course day after day would you? Why do the same to your mind? Take the time you need to ensure that you are fulfilled in different areas of your life, and this of course includes self care. Here are some tips to do just that from our Kelowna psychologists:


  1. Spend intentional time with friends and family – Social connectivity is a massive protective and insulting factor against mental health issues like depression, anxiety, loneliness, etc. You might argue that you’re around your family and friends all the time, but how intentional are you with the time you spend with them? Take time to deepen the connections you have with others by sharing something that you’re struggling with, or planning an activity to experience together, for example.
  2. Visit a vineyard or microbrewery – Vineyard tours are a standard and must-do activity if you’re visiting Kelowna, or if you’re new to Kelowna. Tons of wine is made right in the Okanagan and it’s fascinating to see how these wines are created. There are also many locally made craft beers which you can learn about and taste and microbreweries.
  3. Be outside – One of the great things about Kelowna is that there are so many ways to spend time outside. Being outside is great for positive mental health; that vitamin D helps too! Go for a walk on a new trail, take the bikes out or spend a day at the lake.
  4. Arts and culture – You’ll find the creative hub of Kelowna right in downtown; there are a number of art galleries, museums and theaters to check out. If you don’t usually dabble in these activities, it’s a great opportunity to try something new, learn and find a new creative outlet. Downtown is also filled with restaurants serving all different types of cuisines.
  5. Spend time on your own – We know that social connectivity and quality time with those we care about is super important, but experiencing things on your own and spending time with yourself is also important. This is a great time to reflect, connect with yourself and learn more about yourself as an individual. How about going on a hike (but be safe) or trying out a new recipe?
  6. Connect with nature – Kelowna is blessed with a warm (for Canada, at least) climate for most of the year. This makes spending time outside easy. Take time to connect with nature by going on hikes, spending time at the lake, going on a bike ride, boating, fishing, or visiting an orchard!
  7. Play board games  – This is a great way to challenge yourself mentally, experience something new and bond with family or friends. All great things for your mind! You could host a board game night at your home or virtually, or try out a board game café! We hear Twice The Dice Board Game Café is a great one in Downtown Kelowna!
